Thoughts in 2016

Time is short,
Time is precious
Love the things you do
Do the things you love
All laudable and common cliche`s but what is a cliche … at the end of the day?
They are words or phrases which in some way, motivate, enthuse, reassure and give confidence – or at least, they`re meant to.
Whenever I see memes on Facebook or some such place, I look at them, read them, understand them (mostly) and then move on.
Do they make my life richer?
Do they make me feel fulfilled?
Do they make me feel like I could go out and tackle the world?
No, No and No – BUT, like advertising, a drip feed of positive statements can help with the desired outcome.
If you kept seeing advertising for a product or service time and time again, it may not actually make you go out and purchase that thing there and then – but if and when you`re in the market for said product or service, you`re probably more likely to purchase it from the company you`ve seen most.
Likewise with positive statements and cliche`s, if you see enough of them, I do believe that you are more likely to adopt a more positive attitude and that can only be a good thing right?
As always happens, someone dies, famous or not, if you knew them or had a connection to them in however small a way, you can`t help but reminisce and think fondly (mainly) of the ways and times in which your paths have crossed…and then you get to thinking…Time is short.
Alan Rickman
Terry Wogan
Frank Finlay
David Bowie
Glen Frey
RIP – and to all other people who passed away this year in particular, who are by no means less important, but may have crossed paths with fewer people and aren`t as well known by as many.
Take 5 minutes and write a “bucket list” of things you`d like to do, see, experience from a chinese meal to experiencing a concert at Sydney Opera House or may bungee jumping in New Zealand to helping out at a local soup kitchen.
There are hundreds and thousands of things which we see and feel each and every day which make us think “I should do that, go there or help them etc” – These are the things we need to take time to experience – my thought for today along those lines is to Give Blood.
I will do this this year and i`m ashamed to say I have never done this yet.

I have since registered to give blood and have my first session booked in. Yikes – Advertising works though!

Martyn shared with us his song ‘Nye’, about Anurin (Nye) Bevin, the father of our National Health Service, after hearing about what politicians are doing to us in secret. I shared with Martyn a card advertising a new documentary film ‘SELL OFF – The Abolition of Yout NHS’. YOU can watch the film on You Tube and share it with the world! (I had no hand in the making of the film at all. I do help to promote it though. Never met the film maker Peter Bach!). Share…

Hi Keith, so good to read that comment from you. I`m booked in to give blood a week tomorrow! – eek – i`m sure it`ll be fine.

Joe P – sorry for the delay in approving your post – I`ll have a look at that film you mentioned – and bring it to Martyn`s attention too.
    All the best.

As a sign off… go out there, make a difference – help carry someone`s shopping, pick a piece of litter up, smile at people, give money to the homeless, buy a Big Issue, anything – if we all did a little…..

I did indeed give blood and it was harmless and over in about 7 minutes (the actual giving of the blood that is) and I`ll be doing it again next month when they`re back at the same venue.
Since I posted that – we`ve lost a few more including:
    Gene Wilder
    Victoria Wood
    Denise Roberston
    Kenny Baker
    Caroline Aherne
Anton Yelchin (Chekov in Star Trek)
    Muhammad Ali
    Carla Lane
    David Gest
    Ronnie Corbett
    Paul Daniels

But also following my original post, I have ticked a few things off my own “bucket list” such as:
    Give Blood
Go on a 2 week driving/ camping trip in Europe
Eat in a Michelin starred restaurant (booked for December)
Visit the Orkneys – going very soon

    Carpe Diem folks Carpe Diem
