2016 was such a bad year for famous deaths and incredible (in my opinion) political decisions and some are still grating now, months after they occurred – but I see that as a plus point in some respects, as it means that I still have passion and energy about some things.
Long may that continue.
On a more local, personal scale, 2016 has seen Imageacoustic take on another fantastic artist, namely Sam Carter, with gigs coming in steadily for him this year already.
Luke Jackson is going from strength to strength and his song writing and stage craft is getting better each time we see him. Gigs are also growing and widening geographically too having performed in Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, UK and the US. Luke heads out to the US once again this year, to perform at the Folk alliance conference.
Martyn Joseph is still as forceful and thought provoking as ever – still “kicking the darkness until it bleeds daylight” and wowing audiences everywhere he plays and we enjoyed an evening in his company at the Association of Independent Music awards in London as he was nominated for hardest working musician.
US artist, Willy Porter had a succesful inaugural tour in Ireland in 2016 following a handful of UK dates with an increasing audience – word is spreading and vibes are good. Willy is back in the UK in May this year with long time touring partner Carmen Nickerson.
Amy Wadge is just going stratospheric in her profile; Grammy winning, globe trotting, songwriting powerhouse that she is and has recently had the official airing of the latest song, she co-wrote with Ed Sheeran, on the X factor (Sunday 11th December 2016).
We promoted a couple of great gigs locally for Steve Knightley and for Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston as well as hosting and organising the 9th annual Pipefest at Lancaster University in September.
This year we already have booked: Luke Jackson and Amy Wadge on January 21st at Ellel Village Hall and we have Phil Beer booked for the 3rd March, also at Ellel Village Hall. Full details are on the concert page.
We went on holiday with the tandem and the tent to Austria for a couple of weeks, went to Skye, Orkney and Belgium in the name of fun and good times and saw plenty of great music from:
Martyn Joseph, Luke Jackson, Runrig, The Young Un`s, Show of Hands, Steve Knightley, Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston, Tom Robinson, Lady Maisery, Runrig, Rebecca Loebe, David Francey, Skipinnish, Paul Carrack, Andy Fairweather Lowe and Nick Lowe, Stephen Fearing, Blackie and The Rodeo Kings and countless other bands and musicians.
We got our first campervan this year which we took to Shrewsbury Folk Festival, the Orkneys, the Lake District and for a couple of other 1 or 2 nights away.
I saw and photographed the Northern Lights for the first time ever this year whilst up on the Orkneys.
We harvested our first veg crops at the new house, we celebrated our first Christmas and New Year (2015/2016) in the new house.
We also cycled around Morecambe Bay on the tandem with friends along with a few other great cycle rides.
We hope for more of the same in 2017
